THE ART COLLECTIVE
PLASTIC ANGELS is a remarkable artistic collaboration that transcends borders and cultures to address one of the most pressing issues of our time.
It has been brought to life by exceptional Indonesian and international artists who have joined hands to create powerful artworks using plastic collected directly from the beaches and rivers of Bali.
Through their creativity and dedication, they strive to shed light on the beauty hidden within the debris and raise awareness about the urgent need for social justice and environmental action on our beloved island.

Mickaël Couturier
Mickaël is an award winning artist who likes to experiment with various types of media such as film, photo, graphic art, music, painting, poetry and… Plastic!
He is the visionary behind the Plastic Angels Art Collective and for the past three years, has devoted his life to raising awareness about the alarming levels of plastic pollution and poverty in Bali, with a particular focus on aiding the trash picker kids of Suwung.
His work has been widely recognized & his films have been screened at major festivals such as Cannes and LA Short Fest (Oscar qualifier).
Quint
With his signature stencil and spray paint in tow, Quint became one of the artist who helped revitalize the fascinating street art scene in Bali.
Quint’s stencil art is gracing hundreds of walls all around the island and in many major cities of Indonesia as well as in Europe that he often visits, most especially London.
Liina Klauss
Liina is an environmental artist using colour-bomb techniques to blow your visual radar.
Saturated rivers and rainbows emerge against stunning vistas, coaxing you into a surreal dream only to discover that they are created from rubbish. From the most depressing findings emerges beauty never thought possible. liina’s surreal landscapes leave a horrifying shock that we own these discarded items and give us a sense of scale of our throw-away society.
Nano Huero
Nano Uhero is a Balinese artist who has been creating art with different types of media since early childhood.
He has designed many iconic large scale sculptures made of bamboo in venues such as Potato head in Bali. He also creates furniture with this process and likes to experiment with color by covering his Art with recycled plastic rope.
Irene Hoff
Dutch artist Irene Hoff paints vibrant mixed-media paintings on canvas.
She is deeply inspired by people and nature, with a focus on human emotion, compassion and potential. Among her preferred subjects are female figures, whose visages are partially obscured by a tapestry of hand-torn paper and paint. Irene’s large scale paintings evoke emotion and understanding, earning her international acclaim in the art scene across Europe, USA, Singapore , Australia and Indonesia.
Slinat
Slinat, also known as “Silly in Art”, is a Balinese icon known for his distinctive murals.
He delves into conventional fine art and explores the theme of Balinese history, from colonial times to the impact of tourism today. His compelling creations, both in the form of fine art and murals, grace numerous walls throughout Bali and have also found their way to Jakarta, Yogyakarta, Lombok, Sumba, and even Melbourne.
Elissa Gjertson
Artist Elissa Gjertson is the founder of Plastik Kembali, a Lombok-based studio creating artworks from recycled material, upcycled textile and natural fiber.
Founded in 2019, the PK mission is to transform one of Indonesia’s biggest challenges – plastic waste harming the land and sea – through one of Indonesia’s greatest strengths: traditional folk art. With a team of nearly 30 local artisans, PK also focuses on fostering creativity and collaboration within the community.
Katerina Netupskaya
Katerina Netupskaya is a visual artist from Moscow who has cultivated a simple yet individualistic approach to expressing ideas on paper – signature black line images are meticulously accompanied by written sentences, which are infusing the artworks with a profound sense of purpose and meaning.
Combine Paintings (Germany)
Jasmin Mittag
Jasmin is an artist and activist who uses art to inspire people to engage with socially relevant topics such as conscious consumption, minimalism, equal opportunities, and feminism. She also works as a consultant and supports institutions and companies in the creation of concepts, communication measures, and media. Her expertise in art and activism makes her a valuable asset to any organization that seeks to promote social change.
Briana Smith
In an attempt to fight plastic pollution, the user began picking up plastic waste from coastlines and turning it into art.
She uses ocean life as her muse to spread awareness about plastic pollution. She has teamed up with two non-profits that have engaging educational outreach programs for youth in Kauai. During Reef Guardian’s coral reef camp, kids get to make their own plastic art while advocating awareness about plastic pollution.
Judith Ansems
Judith Ansems is an acclaimed Modern Realist painter that focusses on ‘The poetry of the empty space’.
In her mostly large size oil paintings her audience is inspired to feel the invisible presence of life. Judith has a multi dimensional approach to life and work, and in her previous ‘lives’ she once rocked the stage as a famous pop singer and had her own child psychology practice. Although singing will always be a part of her life, Judith’s main goal is to touch people with her art.
THE HEART AND SOUL of the plastic angels’ collective lies in the portrayal of the children from the trash pickers’ community of Suwung, Bali’s largest landfill. Each piece of art tells a story of resilience, hope, and the potential for transformation. As you explore this exhibition, you’ll find QR codes accompanying every artwork. These QR codes provide a unique opportunity to engage with the children, hear their stories, and witness the impact of our collective actions on their lives.
PLASTIC ANGELS’ MISSION extends beyond the realm of art. We are committed to making a tangible difference in the lives of the children depicted in these artworks. We work in partnership with the Balinese charities Ragam and Bali Life Foundation to provide these children with shelter, nutritious meals, clean water, medical treatment, and innovative education. By attending this exhibition, you are directly contributing to the well-being and empowerment of these little angels.
THANK YOU FOR BEING A PART OF THIS MEANINGFUL ENDEAVOR and for standing with us in our mission to turn plastic waste into art, awareness, and hope. Together, we can be the change that the world needs.

There are sadly no Balinese Tigers left on the island, the last one being killed by hunters in 1947. They somehow became a symbol of the ravage humans are doing on wildlife, being the first tiger subspecies to go extinct in modern history,
